I have a Dell 1600n printer and was able to get it setup as a network printer with a static IP. Printer works fine with no issues. Installed the Dell Network Scan Manager app from the Dell disc that came with the printer. It fails when I go to add a device. Tried adding the device by specifying the IP address as well as letting the app find it on the network. No luck. Read somewhere that you need to update the firmware on the printer to get network scanning to work. Downloaded the latest firmware from the Dell site. Could not get firmware to update on the printer. Tried using a direct USB connection as well as doing it over the network. No luck getting the firmware to update. I am running Windows 7 on all my laptops. For the heck of it, I ran the install on an old Dell laptop running Windows XP and did not have any luck either.
Does anyone have a fix here for both issues? Updating firmware as well as getting Network Scanning to work? Any tips or workarounds are appreciated.
FYI: The printer's firmware has never been updated. I used the original Dell install CD to install the printer with no luck on network scanning. Also downloaded the latest install from the Dell site with no luck on firmware and network scanning.
