Dell 5110 and 1815 MFD's has stopped responding

almost all of our Dell 5110 and 1815 printers have developed an issue.

the printers will work for a random period of time then stop responding.  The print server shows them as being in an error state.

here are the symptoms:

-  the printers are pingable

- you cannot print to the device

- you cannot HTTP to the device

- wireshark port sniffing shows the printer as sending a reset command back

- printers are on various vlans accross the network

The issue will only clear up if you reboot the printer.   But, the issue will occur again at what seems to be a random amount of time.  We took the print server out of the picture by putting a different static IP on one of the problem printers then connecting to it via TCP/IP.  we get the same issue where it will lock up in an error state after a while.

this is occuring on almost 30 printers......all Dell.  All other brands of printers are fine.  To our records we had no automated pushes go out to the printers or PC's or Windows updates.

why is it that you can ping the unit but not HTTP to it? 

- yes the IP is correct

- disabled port security

- server rebooted

- took server out of the picture by connecting via TCP/IP

 

any ideas would be appreciated
